Is traveling with toddlers worth it?

When you're a parent of toddlers, the idea of traveling somewhere new might seem daunting. The thought of handling tantrums, diaper changes, and sleepless nights on the road can be intimidating. Vacation? More like looking after the kids in a different location, right? You might be asking yourself, is it worth it?
We’ve traveled with our toddlers from the moment we could and it’s been a wild ride. We’ve had tantrums at Angkor Wat, jet lag in Edinburgh, and sick kids in Krabi to name a few. We’ve also seen our toddlers in awe of elephants in Cambodia, citing landmarks from one of their favorite books on a big red bus tour in London and having the time of their life dancing at a beach club in Phuket.
So often I hear the argument “why take your kids overseas so young, they won’t remember it”. Sure they may not, but I truly believe it will shape who they are and their perception of the world. And don't forget the wonderful memories YOU will make along the way. So, let’s explore the incredible benefits we’ve found to travelling with little ones.
1. Early Exposure to Diversity:
Traveling exposes your toddlers to a world of diversity. They get to see different cultures, taste new foods, and hear unfamiliar languages. This early exposure fosters tolerance, curiosity, and a broader worldview. It teaches them that the world is vast, diverse, and different to what they know in the comfort of their own backyard.
2. Building Stronger Bonds:
One of the most significant advantages of traveling with toddlers is the opportunity it provides to strengthen your family bonds. Away from the grind and routine of daily life, you have the chance to connect on a deeper level. Whether you're exploring a new city, hiking in nature, or trying new foods together, these shared experiences create lasting memories that bring you closer together
3. Creating Lasting Memories:
Ask any parent, and they'll tell you that the most cherished memories often stem from family vacations. From their first glimpse of the ocean to the first time they taste gelato in Italy, these moments become treasured memories that your toddlers will carry with them throughout their lives, or see the photos to tell the tale.
4. Developing Social Skills:
Interacting with new people and making friends while traveling helps toddlers develop social skills. They learn how to communicate, share, and connect with others from different backgrounds.
So, is traveling with toddlers worth it? ABSOLUTELY! Although it requires a fair amount of organization and a whole lot of patience, the benefits far outweigh the challenges. Create those family memories and watch your child shape into a curious adventurer that learns life-long skills along the way. Our single most important tip? Be organized and strap in for the ride.
